Comptoir Agricole is an agricultural cooperative bringing together 43 farmers in Alsace with 461 hectares of hops planted. 800 tons of hops were harvested in 2018, across 15 cultivated varieties. Since 2001, they’ve led their own research program which has resulted in 5 French varieties being commercialized: Aramis, Barbe Rouge, Elixir, Mistral, and Triskel. This hop is 100% French from seed to brewery!
France is the 10th largest hop producer by volume. The Hop France by Comptoir Agricole brand allows French hop growers to access French varieties and benefit from Comptoir Agricole’s technical support in production. This brand promotes French hops that meet precise specifications for optimal quality. “Good hops for the world’s best beers,” in essence. The France Biere Challenge was born from the desire to create an independent national competition dedicated to French beers, inspired by the success of the Brussels Beer Challenge.
In 2016, the idea of a competition specifically dedicated to French beers took shape. A name emerged: the France Biere Challenge, which launched in March 2018.
Today, the France Biere Challenge is co-organized by BeComev and L’Echappee Biere, two major players in the brewing sector. BeComev, an expert in organizing international competitions, brings its know-how and network, while L’Echappee Biere, a specialist in brewing tourism and events, enriches the competition with its creativity and strong roots in the French beer ecosystem.
Together, these two partners help make the France Biere Challenge a landmark event, serving brewers and promoting French brewing heritage.
Ground Control is an independent and engaged cultural venue.
